Esposizione Universale Roma
The Esposizione Universale Roma, more commonly referred to by its acronym EUR, is a large new town area to the south of Rome's city centre. The area was built from 1935 onwards by Benito Mussolini and completed after the Second World War. The area is characterised by broad streets and monolithic buildings such as the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana and the Palazzo dei Congressi. The association with Fascist Italy cannot be ignored, but EUR is also an interesting example of town planning and architecture and is included in this website for that reason alone rather than for EUR's political overtones.
